Arriving October 10th on World Mental Health Day, the new release trades party anthems for a gritty look at alcohol, emotional struggles, and the consequences of losing control.

PITTSBURGH, PA — October 8, 2026 — Pittsburgh-area rock band Noble Hops is turning up the volume and tackling a serious subject with its new single, “Thinkin’ (‘bout drinkin’),” set for release October 10, 2026, through Shady Lady Records, in association with MTS Management Group and MTS Records. Combining a harder-edged rock sound with brutally candid lyrics, the track explores the darker realities of drinking, emotional isolation, and the destructive cycle of using alcohol to escape life’s problems.
While countless songs celebrate drinking as an invitation to let loose, Noble Hops takes a decidedly different approach. “Thinkin’ (‘bout drinkin’)” pulls back the curtain on what happens when the party ends, the bottle takes control, and the consequences become impossible to ignore.
“This is not your red solo cup, beach party and cool breeze, woo-hoo girls kind of song,” explains Noble Hops frontman Utah Burgess. “There can be a dark side to imbibing and this song casts a bit of a light on that.”
Originally written nearly two decades ago, the song traces its roots to Burgess’s former band, B.U.M. (Bruce, Utah and Marty). Burgess composed the music and co-wrote the lyrics with former bandmate Marty Roppolo. Now reimagined through Noble Hops’ muscular rock approach, the track takes on renewed urgency while retaining the honesty of its original message.
For Burgess, the subject isn’t about condemning alcohol or those who enjoy it. Rather, it’s about recognizing when an enjoyable pastime crosses into something far more dangerous.
“I enjoy a good beer. In fact, I can enjoy several good beers. I named the band after beer, you know, but like anything else, sometimes you can cross the line,” Burgess says.
That connection between alcohol use and emotional well-being gives the October 10 release date additional significance. The date coincides with World Mental Health Day, an international observance dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues and encouraging greater understanding and support.
The single was recorded at Rattle Clack Studio, with Jazz Byers handling engineering, production, mixing, and mastering. Burgess served as co-producer, and the cover artwork was created by Linda Weber.
At its heart, the single is more than a song about drinking. It’s a story about regret, personal responsibility, and the painful realization that sometimes the very thing someone turns to for relief becomes the source of their greatest troubles.
