ABOUT ENGAGE: Engage was founded in 2020 by Carla Bonnell and Rick Barlett as a collaborative project centered on songwriting and musical exploration. Over time, the lineup evolved to include seasoned musicians like Peter Sisk, Vernon Daigle, and Greg Mansfield, each bringing unique experiences and influences that shaped the group’s folk-rock and folk-country sound. In 2023, Engage released their debut album The Time Has Come, which earned a Bronze award for Band Album of the Year at the ISSA Music Awards. Their follow-up project, Master Plan: Side “EH”, further elevated their profile, making them finalists in six categories at the 2025 ISSA Awards.
The band’s members are deeply rooted in Canada’s music scene, with notable accomplishments spanning decades. Rick Barlett, a former member of the Howard Brook Band, saw regional radio success in the ’70s and ’80s, later releasing a solo album produced by Billy Sherwood of YES. Carla Bonnell’s 2014 debut The Liberator, produced by JP Cormier, reached the Top 10 on Canada’s Earshot charts and secured her induction into the Minto Country Music Wall of Fame.
