Exclusive Interview With Argentina’s Crypto Musician Lio Mori

Hi Lio! You have a brand new album coming out on April 8th ‘Egyperces Dalok’. First off, what does the title mean, and secondly, what can listeners expect from it?

Hi Michael! “Egyperces Dalok” means “One Minute Songs” in Hungarian, and that’s exactly what listeners will find on it. Each song was inspired for a word that I’ve chosen and used as title for the song. Then, I tried to represent that word the best I could within one minute of music and sounds. The soundscape for this instrumental album goes from folk and classical music all the way up to death metal and doom metal, going thru a lot of genres and crossovers in between.

You worked with hed p.e. What was that experience like?

It was a dream coming true for me. I’ve been a big hed p.e. fan since the first time I listened to their music back in 1997. Hed p.e. has been one of the biggest influences for me in my early music career. Also, I consider Jahred to be one of the best and most versatile rock/metal singers from the world. Having him singing on a couple of my songs is just unreal.

How has being from Argentina influenced your music, and do you think it’s been a positive influence, or negative?

Being born in Argentina and being a young musician in the nineties here, was a big challenge indeed. Back then, was very hard to get noticed being here, especially doing the kind of music that I do. As almost everything in life, it was negative on one hand, and positive on the other. It was not easy for sure, but it gave me the strength and perseverance to fight for my dreams no matter what.

Any plans to tour around this album release?

Due to the nature of my music and the fact that I make almost all the music by myself or in collaboration with musicians from all over the world, it’s almost impossible to tour, for me. Also, my main focus as an artist is to compose and record music, and not on playing live anyway.

What’s your dream venue to perform at? If you could open a show for any artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

I have so many influences that is very hard for me to pick just one artist. Also, as I said, I’m not focused on playing live, but… I’d love to collaborate in one way or another with the Cavalera brothers (Igor and Max), Mike Patton and John Zorn.

Finally, what do you like to do when you’re not making music? Any hobbies or interests?

Being with my family, travel (a lot) and play pinball. If there’s something that I can’t understand is when people get bored. There’s so many books to read; movies, series, documentaries to watch; music to listen; places to visit and things to learn, that one life is not enough to do all of it!

Thanks for taking the time, Lio! Best of luck on the new release!
