Hi Varro. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us today. Let’s start with your name…Varro Vivyds is a very unique name. Is that your given name, or a stage name? If stage, how did you come up with it?

So it’s kind of an embarrassing, but funny story. My real name is Veronica and I knew I wanted something in the spectrum that felt the same rolling off your tongue. I knew it needed to stand out and I’m sure there a hundreds of Veronicas trying to do the same thing. I also knew that it’s important for all your social media and ways for people to search you to be the same. Especially as an artist just starting to get a fan base.

So with all that in mind, I basically went on to Instagram and tried out about 50 variations of names I thought sounded nice together, looking for a handle that hadn’t already been taken. I really didn’t want “ insert name here_music” or “insert name here_official.” As for the spelling of Vivyds with a Y, I did it for fun because Y not ha

You are from the Bay Area. How has being from an area with such a rich musical heritage affected/influenced your music?

I’m from a coastal community so we get a lot of Reggae and Punk artist coming to our town. In the mountains near by, we have more of a Country artist scene , in Santa Clara you have bigger arenas that host more main stream major artist, and then travel up to Oakland and you have a lot of Hip Hop and R&B.

The true beauty of this is, I learned at a young age I didn’t have to be trapped inside a box. I love music with a message and around here I feel you don’t find too many fillers. Great music for me is all about story telling, and regardless of genre, if your songs are able capture that , that’s what makes me fall in love with it.

I really do love all types of music and I’m not afraid to experiment with the vibes that I’m wanting to put off. Growing up here has really allowed me to expand my musical pallet.

Tell us about your new single, “Same Routine.” Where/when did you write it, record it, etc?

I wrote it about Same Routine about quarantine. Every day I would wake up and I’d go outside and sit in the same chair and drink my tea and do absolutely nothing. My sleep schedule was completely turned around and I was just bored out of my mind.

It’s your lofi/bedroom pop genre, so it definitely has that grittiness to it. I’m calling it my soft launch, because I went with that under produced route to really give it that “I wrote this at home” vibe that flows with the story. It’s just a really funny and relatable song. The lyrics should give you a good chuckle

I wrote it I believe around June, when I thought all of this would be over. And it’s still completely relevant. And fun fact, the chair that I’m sitting on in the cover art, is the actual chair that the song was written in and was sung about in the song ha ha. And if that was confusing, listen to the song and look at the photo and then you’ll understand ;p

How has COVID affected your music career in 2020?

I feel so fortunate to say that COVID has greatly impacted my music career in the most beautiful way. I help care for my parents who are higher risk and they didn’t want me going back to work. So I’ve had A LOT of time to work on music. Which inspired my single “Same Routine.”

We were able to record all my upcoming singles and we’ve started on the EP. What’s nice about having done it this way, is now I can just release music and not have to worry about trying to get a song done quickly so I stay on peoples minds. I really get to perfect the songs.

I’ve also been taking more risk as a writer trying different that I’ve never done before and being home with my family has allowed me to do tha

What’s next for Varro Vivyds? Any plans for a follow up single/video release?

Awesome things will be happening all of next year. Starting in January, every 3 to 4 weeks I will be releasing a new song. All of which are different genres. You’ll have another Bedroom Pop song, Alternative Pop, R&B, Dance Pop and Dark Pop.

In September is the plan to release the EP, which will be 5 to 6 songs.
I’m really looking forward to the EP because it’s going to give you all the Melanie Martinez and Billie Eilish vibes. Definitely more in the spooky end of things.

In terms of some music videos, as a DIY indie artist, that’s something I need to save up for. I do have a person I’ve been talking with and the goal is to have something out mid April. It’s going to be for one of my best “ burn to your ex” songs. It’s called Bed Frame and it’s about a guy who doesn’t have a bed frame, so I should have ran away.
