Exclusive Interview With The Enigmatic Exosteric

Exosteric is currently a one man band who is wrestling between being the bass player, guitar player, singer, songwriter, keyboard player and drum programmer. Since it’s inception in 2018 two release’s came pouring forth in that year, A Promise is a Promise and Don’t Speak of Karma. After a year long hiatus, Angelina was released February 14th 2020. The enigmatic musician took time to answer some questions for fans and readers…

MTS: Exosteric is a very unique and memorable name. How did you come up with it? What is the meaning behind it?

Exosteric: If you haven’t come across the word Exoteric or Esoteric in your lifetime. Quoting Dictionary.com‘s definition: Exoteric means “suitable for or communicated to the general public” Esoteric means if we take definition 2. “Belonging to the select few”

And it rubs me the wrong way. It’s a merger of those two words that are complete opposites as a way to cancel this form of magic.

Imagine if you paid for college and your professor was part of an esoteric circle who only tutored his students the exoteric version. I would feel ripped off and violated, my education wouldn’t really mean anything it would simply be an illusion.

MTS: You’ve released 3 albums in the past 2 years. What do you attribute your prolific writing and recording to? What inspires you?

E: Some are personal experiences and other thing’s might be simply observing the world around me and my reflection’s and thoughts about that. Other times it might simply be me tuning to the radio frequencies that are in my mind and just going with the flow. I read a lot maybe that plays a part as well.

MTS: You are a one-man band, so to speak. Would you ever try to tour, hiring outside players? If you could fill each instrument with your “dream” musician, who would play in your band?

E: Most definitely; in a heartbeat, I would try to tour hiring outside players if I had an audience that was receptive to that idea.

As for “dream” musician’s ….. I’d replace the word dream with chemistry if it was for writing and recording. It would be a group where each individual weakness would be the strength of the other member. If I couldn’t express the way I hear it in my head than the other member could see it through or at least help one another and teach one another to be able to achieve that short term goal.

If it was simply playing the music for a live audience. The good part about it, is I wrote the songs and I’m no virtuoso myself. So whichever musician would play would be able to put their own unique spin on it if they wanted to and the cool thing about it is if it wasn’t the same bass player or drummer … every week or day it would give the show something different. It would be like walking the wire with no safety net.

MTS: Tell us about your latest release, “Angelina”

E: It’s available on all major streaming platforms. I don’t wish to elaborate because it’s a personal experience and what it means to me might not totally be the same experience for you even though we might have both gone through the same thing.

MTS: What is next for Exosteric? Where do you see this project in 5 years?

E: I don’t know about the next 5 years. As for 2020 I would like to put the pedal to the metal and release a lot more content and hopefully build a bigger audience. All I can do is my best that I can personally and live with the result regardless if it might be good or bad. If it grows maybe it won’t simply be a one-man band anymore. Who knows ………

MTS: BONUS QUESTION: If I were to come over for dinner, what would you serve, and what movie would we watch after dinner?

E: Well I’m not going to lie, I googled you but I couldn’t find what you like to eat. So I’m not sure about allergies or if you’re vegetarian or a carnivore etc. It would have to be take out once I find out those details. As for a movie well St Vincent.

MTS: Well, I guess Pizza or Chinese are always a good option. Thanks E!
