This emotional ballad marks a new artistic chapter for the couple, showcasing not only their signature storytelling but also their first track mixed in Dolby Atmos, produced in collaboration with Nashville’s esteemed producer and mix engineer Colt Capperrune.
Told from the perspective of a young man leaving behind his childhood love — a girl named Virginia — the song is set in Richmond and follows the heartache and bittersweet clarity of growing apart. The clever double meaning in the title “West Virginia” paints a lyrical picture of goodbye, freedom, and reflection, wrapped in a soulful blend of modern country and cinematic balladry.
“This story isn’t ours, but it is someone’s,” says Cliff Prowse. “I think a lot of people have felt the pull between love and leaving.”
The release will be accompanied by a haunting visualizer filmed in the historic McKinney Cotton Mill in Ft. Worth, TX, adding rustic texture to the emotionally rich track.
