On The Road To Rock Interviews Xander Demos

We’d like to thank David Trejo of the brand new blog, On the Road to Rock, for making Xander Demos their very FIRST interview! Here’s a taste:

OTRTR: Reading up a little, it seems you like a lot of different types of music. When did you feel music was becoming a big part of your life, and that it was something you wanted to do?

Xander: I love that question! Well, I do like all kinds of music all the way from movie scores to many forms of metal and lots of stuff in between. I really felt that music was starting to move me when I heard late 70s music like ABBA, Boston, Elton John and KISS – again, quite diverse. I actually remember seeing the video for “Talk of the Town” by The Pretenders and deciding that I wanted to play music. The rest was just evolution.

OTRTR: Why was the guitar your choose, and who were some of your influences? If possible, can you break down their style that inspired you?

Xander: Sure. Basically, I chose guitar after SEEING people playing guitar on MTV. It wasn’t just the aural effect of the guitar – it was visual at that point and I was really turned on by all of the cool sounds it could do. I started on drums – for about a year – and I sucked pretty bad. So the earliest guitar influences were Tom Scholz, Neal Schon, Eddie Van Halen and Brad Gillis. Each one of them were amazingly melodic and their guitars “sang” to me. Admittedly, I wasn’t a fan of bluesy players back then – so all of my influences didn’t appear that way to my ears then. Of course, that wasn’t the case as I grew up.
