The farm for me was always a place I could learn to become a man. My dad would take me hunting at my uncle’s farm in southwestern Wisconsin. From the time I was about 10, we would go to the farm and mess around scouting for places to deer hunt. There were many great moments on that farm. It was more than just a farm to me and I’m sure it was to the other guys that spent time there over about 15 years.
Today, I still enjoy being near a farm. I spend time each fall at a great place hunting deer and really just messing around. There is something about being outside and with nature that brings out happiness in a guy.
That is my interpretation of Doug Briney’s song, More Than Just a Farm. It’s about the memories and the family you share time with on a family farm.
